SAMSUNG 850 Pro SSD

Review by: Steven Walton

Considering the breakneck one-upsmanship we saw among early SSD makers, record-setting iterations have been slower to arrive over the last two years with 2012's Samsung SSD 840 Pro series maintaining relevance among a laundry list of competing options after price cuts brought it from $1.05 per gigabyte to $0.74 a gig.

That works out to $190 for the 256GB 840 Pro, which is fair but puts the aging enthusiast series in an awkward position just beyond today's finest budget options, including Samsung's own 840 Evo ($0.57 per gig for 250GB) and the $0.43/GB Crucial MX100, which is beside the point that not everyone wants a cut-down drive.

Samsung’s curved phone

high on hype, low on value

Posted By: sarmistha sinha
On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled Galaxy Round, a phone with a curved screen. The company is calling it world's first phone with a curved screen, which sounds impressive. But the Korean firm neither provided details on how the curved screen would meaningfully help users nor explained what its customers in future can expect from phones that are not flat.

The reality is that even though the concept of curved screens sounds impressive, it is not likely to alter the user experience for smartphone users in any significant way.

Samsung

First look:  Galaxy Note 10.1

Posted By: samantha Dsouza
Remember when people used personal computers - desktops and laptops - to check email, view video and keep tabs on Facebook? Back in that far-away era, I'd have several windows open for Web browsers, a word processor, a photo editor and sometimes a reader for PDF documents.

I miss that capability on mobile devices, particularly on full-size tablets with a decent amount of display space. With iPads and Android tablets, I'm typically limited to one window displayed at a time; other apps run in the background, out of sight. With Windows 8 tablets, I can run two windows side by side, but I'm constrained in what I can do with them. It gets better with the Windows 8.1 update due out next week, but it's still not the free-for-all I had with PCs.

True OCTA - Core

Meizu: Software update to enable true-octa core on all Exynos 5s

Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa chipsets available now on the market can't actually utilize all eight cores at the same time. Both 5410 and 5420 chips can use either the four Cortex-A7 cores or the four Cortex-A15 at a time. Samsung has decided to fix this and yesterday the manufacturer announced its latest revision of the Exynos platform will support simultaneous operation of all eight cores.
So far, so good. Samsung will deploy this new solution by the end of this year. Yesterday's announcement left us wondering if the current generation Exynos 5 chips can get the extra capabilities as well, since Samsung didn't specify if it required changing anything on architecture level. Well today Meizu, which is the other Exynos-using manufacturer, chipped in and brought some good news.

Tizen 3.0 spotted running on a Samsung Galaxy S III

It seems like it will take forever for Samsung to announce an actual smartphone running its Tizen platform. However, this doesn't stop the company from making new versions of its home brewed mobile operating system, as screenshots of the new Tizen 3.0 OS appear in the wild.

SAMSUNG : Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

By Richard Adhikari

Samsung's Galaxy Gear is unlikely to kick smartwatch demand into high gear if early reactions are any indication. The Gear is "way too large and heavy," remarked tech analyst Daniel Matte. "I personally think the camera embedded in the strap is quite obtrusive and ugly." Also, the smartwatch has less than one day's battery life, "which is not adequate for the mass market consumer."
